what first sold me on Pureology products was the scent. I was having my hair styled, and the stylist used the product to wash my hair. It just smelled so clean and fresh that I was knocked over by sheer bliss! Then came the tingling, cooling, refreshing sensation spreading over my scalp. When my hair was finished being washed, it... well... felt CLEAN. It's a tough thing to describe, this feeling of "clean" because I had never really felt as though my hair was "unclean" after having washed it with other hair products, however, this was much different. My hair felt lighter and softer - even while it was still wet!

Naturally, because I was in a salon, I expected the shampoo to be pricey - and I wasn't at all wrong! But I felt like splurging, so I bought first the 10oz bottle, which was used by two people and still managed to last for almost 6 months. Why? Well because this shampoo is so concentrated that you honestly need to only use an amount about the size of a nickel - and that's for long hair!

The conditioner didn't disappoint one iota, either. The same fresh feeling and clean scent dazzled me over that first six months and I felt my anxiety rise as the amount in the bottle became less and less.

Fortunately, our next purchase of this shampoo was at an outlet store, so we got some pretty impressive savings on the BIG bottle - the 33.8oz as shown here, I believe. That has lasted us well over a year, again with two people using it. We're starting to run out, but we've still got enough to probably last another month or so.

Now to kind of put this into a frame of reference... I am kind of a cheapskate. (If by "kind of" you mean "definitely".) I've used Suave salon knock-off products because they fit in my target price-range. I've refused to buy Pantene in the past because it was too expensive. For me to shell out this kind of money on shampoo is unheard-of, and if my poor mother only knew, she'd probably faint.

That said... I firmly believe it's worth every single penny.

My hair has never been more manageable or healthy. I tend to have what I refer to as "NASCAR hair" - meaning it gets bumps and ridges instead of any actual curl, and then those bumps and ridges separate out into entirely unattractive frizz-tastic flyaway split ends and generally projects this messy halo effect. With Pureology, I look infinitely more poised, polished, and presentable - no small feat!

As an added bonus, I discovered in the shower one day that these products are vegan *and* not tested on animals! (Come on, you know you read in the shower too - I'm not a weirdo...)

If you're at all reluctant about buying this shampoo, see if you can get your hands on some samples from somewhere. You're just not going to believe how awesome this stuff is until you use it. And you *should* use it.

Great product, try it first though
Personally, I love it. I have coarse/color-processed, straight, shoulder length hair and I just use a pea sized amount on towel dried hair just before I blow dry/flat iron...and it leaves my hair soft and smooth. I use a touch more on my daughter's thick waist length hair with similar results. I'm glad my salon suggested it. The Amazon price is $11 less than what my salon was selling it for so it's also a pretty decent deal.

However, it's still a small investment even at the $27 price point and I can see how there would be people who have fine hair who might find it too heavy of a product and the smell is pretty heady (the reviewer who said it was musky is correct, with a warm spicy undertone) so I suggest if your salon sells it to ask them for a sample just to try it out first before you buy.

My hair dresser shared this product with me the last time I was in and I could not believe the results. She used it and then gave me a sample to try. All I can say is "AMAZING!" I have fought with my hair for 25 + years and always dreamed of having smooth shiny hair like everyone else. But I always had coarse, unruly, frizzy hair. A good flat iron helped a good bit, but still it would eventualy frizz, even with humidity protectants and sprays. This stuff is so simple, but works perfectly. No fuzz or frizz, not greasy at all. All you need is a few drops, so it will last a long time. Hair dries super fast. It's super slippery & shiny with no residue. And you can use your usual styling products with it if you like. I can not believe the results. I highly recommend this and the Hair Mask that goes with it to use in the shower. I would like to try the Intense Curl Creme because there are time when I like a little curl, but under control.

Just as described
This product is just as described. Without making your hair greasy, it makes it very soft and manageable. My hair has been processed for 20 years and has been damaged a lot. I can't say it is a hundred percent better. But, I noticed even on the first day a BIG difference in my hair. Definitely will continue to use and will buy again.

I'm 37 years old and since my hair turned curly at the age of 9 I've been looking for a way to cut down on the frizz. I can't say that this product does it alone, but it's part of a regimen that works for me. It's pricey, so once my hair was healthier, I switched to less frequent washes with it, but when I use a different shampoo, I use the Wen as a leave in conditioner and it really works.
My only problem was that the top was not secure in shipping and the product spilled. I contacted the company and although it took several weeks they more than compensated for the spill.

All in all, worth the effort.

I was really worried about spending so much on an iron. I mean come on, how could it be worth that kind of money? But it IS. It works great, gives me salon-pretty hair, and is easy to use. I had a CHI Turbo before and thought it was good, but this blows it away. My hair looks naturally beautiful rather than made up and the effect lasts for days. I flat iron my hair once a week, either flat or curled, and it stays nice until I wash it. LOVE IT. If it broke I would not hesitate to buy another.

It does make a difference
I did not think that ceramic staighteners could be so different, but my daughter told me this one was. She was right. There really is a difference!!! LOVE THIS HAIR CARE PRODUCT!

Usually I'm disappointed with infomercial products...every try "Takara" foot patches? Don't. Wen is the exception. I can't believe somebody didn't come up with this sooner. Pricey for shampoo...but it isn't even in the same category as any of that lathering stuff...it's worth it. BuY it on Amazon...I got my order in 2 days...I ordered the "introductory offer" from the Chaz Dean website and it arrived 4 weeks later. This is a great way to try all the "flavors"!

Good Hair Care Product

This product is great overall. The mint frangraces are a little strong for me. The results are what is advertised. I think its a product for someone with dry to extremly dry hair. I can see where a person with oily hair may not like this product because its all about the mositurizing. After only one week of use, I have notice a difference and so have other people, in the feel and texture of my hair. Its soft, not like straw anymore. I have to agree with the previous reviewer - it's the best I have ever tried. My "Must Have" hair product
I'm 36 years old and have tried nearly everything to smooth my wavy, dry hair over the years. All other products have either smelled bad, performed poorly, darkened the appearance of my hair, made my hair look dirty or oily, or stopped being effective on my hair at some point. I didn't want to like this product because it is so expensive, but it is the one product I can't live without. It smooths my hair so that it doesn't look frizzy, yet still allows my hair to have some life - it doesn't weigh it down and gives my hair some definition without hold. The smell is really pleasant and doesn't smell like weird apples or a thousand chemicals. I love this stuff - just wish it were less expensive and easier to find in the salons since they only sell to high end salons (and apparently Amazon.com and Drugstore.com - though it's cheaper on Amazon).

Male pattern hair loss (MPHL) is a condition that affects as many as 50 percent of men by the age of fifty, but according to a new study, baldness may soon be a treatable condition.

Using pairs of identical twins, the study assessed the efficacy of dutasteride, a particular enzyme inhibitor, as a means of reducing hair loss and encouraging new growth, finding it to be an effective means of combating baldness.

Hair loss usually develops gradually and may be patchy or diffuse (all over) and also called is Baldness. Hair loss is so common that most of the time it is considered a normal variation and not a disease. Baldnessinvolves the state of lacking hair where it often grows, especially on the head. Thinning hair can be very frustrating. Men find it upsetting enough. But for women it's a disaster. After all, while most men would prefer a full head of hair, they CAN just shave it off. It's seen as manly, and, in fact, a bald head can indeed look very sexy - on a man.

That's not the case for women. I feel quite safe in generalizing here that most women would not feel comfortable just shaving it all off. That's a tough decision even for women who are going through chemotherapy, even though it seems the cool thing to do - to a point. But it's pretty much unacceptable for women otherwise. Remember the press Britney Spears received when she shaved it all off!

So what to do? In another article, I suggested a few tricks I have found useful myself. Since that article has proven to be my all-time most popular ezine article to date, here's now another one on the subject, with additional tips. And to get maximum value, I decided to ask my hair dresser John for advice. In addition to some of the tips I already wrote about last time (hair color and thickening shampoo in particular), he made the following suggestions:

1. Use mousse

It will make your hair appear thicker. Experiment with different brands until you find the one that works best for you.

2. Blow-dry your hair upside down

Bend over and start with drying the hair underneath first for maximum body.

Caution:

Be gentle when you blow-dry. Don't overuse this technique. And don't use too much heat. Elsewhere I've read that air-drying is much easier on your hair, and will help you hang on to it longer. So you may want to consider saving the turbo blow-dry for special occasions.

3. Consider getting a perm

I asked John whether perms were safe for thinning hair, and he said, that yes, absolutely, they were perfectly safe and would really help. I was a bit concerned about the harsh chemicals, but he said that there are milder perms out there these days, and, well, there's an actual perm literally designed for the purpose of making your hair look like there's more of it than you actually have: The body perm!

My personal note on this one: Keep careful track of the effect that perms have on your hair. If you find no ill effects, enjoy. If perms seem to cause further thinning, minimize the number of perms you get or at least insist on the most natural and mildest perm you can find.

4. Get the right kind of haircut

Avoid dos that are too long, especially if your hair is straight. The weight will drag it down and make it look even less full. A chin-length bob, especially if it's layered, will allow your hair to fluff up to its full potential.

On the other hand, be sure to avoid having your hair cut too short, especially on top. It can make thinning hair look even thinner.

What’s In Your Shampoo? Hair Health, And Hair Loss Prevention Using Natural Products

We do our shopping and purchase our hair care products and assume we are doing the right things for hair health. Through promotion and marketing we are led to believe that some of the products available today are things we just can’t do without. But is that really true?

To find the answer you must first look at the structure of hair. Below the skin is the hair follicle, the sebaceous gland and blood vessels. The hair itself is made up of protein. When you brush your hair it causes the sebaceous gland to produce sebum. This oily substance coats and protects the hair from the elements. It also stimulates the blood vessels to provide the nourishment your hair needs. Brushing your hair and or massaging the scalp are beneficial to hair health.

With commercial products, most shampoos and conditioners contain harsh chemicals and synthetic products. In shampoos, that means it can over clean your hair and strip it of its precious oils. Now you need to condition it to replace the oils. It can harm the scalp and hair follicles. It is the same with laundry detergents. They are loaded with fillers and less actual soap so that they can sell you more detergent. It’s a money making strategy that has worked so they will continue to do so.

Now if you are like most people, you’ve read the labels but don’t have a clue as to what the ingredients really are and what their function is. Here it is in layman’s terms:

1) Distereate and propylene glycol or glycol are petroleum based (crude oil). They are very cheap which is why they are widely used in the cosmetic industry.

2) Isopropyl alcohol is another very cheap solvent.

3) Propylparaben or Methylparen are preservatives that are synthetic. The human body typically does not understand synthetic, it understands organic.

4) Cetearyl alcohol is an emulsifier and it can be natural or synthetic. Synthetic is often used because it’s cheaper and easier to produce.

These petrochemicals are absorbed through the skin, then down through the organs and tissues. Many believe that long term exposure to these toxins can cause permanent damage anywhere in the body, and yet, governments have sided with big industry to not require them to disclose what these products contain or what they really are. Instead we have big fancy names you can hardly pronounce let alone understand.

The solution? It’s not as hard as you think. It’s as close as you health food store or even your own fridge. Here are some tips:

1) Buy a natural liquid soap from the health food store. Also purchase some essential oils such as lavender (for all hair types), rosemary, clary sage, cedar wood, birch and peppermint (for hair loss) bergamot, rosewood, eucalyptus etc. Also purchase natural oils such as olive, jojoba, or avocado. Here’s what to do; in a clean spray bottle, pour in about ½ a cup of distilled or spring water. Add 1 cup of liquid soap. Then take 2 tsp of your vegetable oil and add 10 to 20 drops of your chosen essential oils. It can be just one or several combined oils. Shake gently. There you have it. Simple as that! (Essential oils always need to be in a vegetable oil base because of its concentration). You should not need a cream rinse after that because oils will be replaced.

2) If you need deep conditioning, try saturating your hair in mayonnaise or warmed olive oil. Wrap tightly and cover with a shower cap and let rest on the hair for approximately 20 minutes, then rinse out. You can also take 2 egg yolks and whisk them until frothy, then add some warm water. Pour over hair and leave on for 2 minutes then rinse well.

3) It’s a good idea to do a final rinse on your hair with something acidic such as cider vinegar, lemon juice, beer or even milk. Add any of these ingredients with some water to rinse your hair with to restore the alkaline/acid balance of your hair and scalp, and take off any residue you may have left on your hair.

There are many good natural recipes for healthy hair but these are a few things to get you started in the right direction. Experiment with different essential and vegetable oils to find what you like best. Natural, your body understands, so here’s to a good hair day!

Try a different cut or even a loose perm etc. If you do use a blow dryer, try and use one with no more than 1,000 watts, and reduce the temperature and power level as your hair dries.
Use your fingers
Instead of using a blow dryer, gently fluff and style your hair with your fingers as it dries, always lifting the hair up off the scalp. Bending over as you do this allows gravity to contribute to extra fullness.
Use a humidifier
Dry indoor air is bad for dry hair so when it's winter counteract the standard low-moisture environment with a humidifier. If the humidifier is located in the bedroom, your hair can benefit from 8 hours of added moisture every night.
Limit sun exposure
Humidity is high in summer but the sun is hot and too much sun can damage your hair as well as your skin. If you can't limit sun exposure, try to apply a conditioner to your hair that contains sunscreen after shampooing.
Wear a hat
Hats are a good alternative to sunscreen application so wear a hat before going out in the summer sun.
Use baby oil
To protect your hair from chlorine damage when swimming, apply baby oil to your hair before entering the pool. Use about ½ a teaspoon - more if your hair is long - and work it in to your hair. The oil coats hair shafts and prevents them from absorbing harsh chlorine. After your swim you can shampoo the oil out.
